Welcome to the house of prayer
The closest the Bible comes to giving a “pattern” for prayer is the Lord’s Prayer in Matthew 6:9-13
The Lord’s prayershould be understood as an example, a pattern of how to pray.
The Lord’s Prayer teaches us to pray. It gives us the “ingredients” that should go into prayer. Here is how it breaks down. “Our Father in heaven” is teaching us who to address our prayers to, the Father. “Hallowed be your name” is telling us to worship God, and to praise Him for who He is. The phrase “your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” is a reminder to us that we are to pray for God’s plan in our lives and the world, not our own plan. We are to pray for God’s will to be done, not for our desires. We are encouraged to ask God for the things we need in“give us today our daily bread.” “Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors”remind us to confess our sins to God and to turn from them – and then also to forgive others as God has forgiven us. The conclusion of the Lord’s prayer, “And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one” is a plea for help in achieving victory over sin and a request for protection from the attacks of the devil.
This is how we should pray:
Ask in faith
Be diligent
Pray for God's will, not your own
Have a humble, yielded attitude
Keep God's Law
Approach God with a clean conscience
Be Bold
Pray in detail
Always thank God
Pray from the heart
As you begin to pray, ask the Holy Spirit to come along beside you as you pray. Then put away daily thoughts, which is very hard. Concentrate on the words in a quiet place, if possible. (But don’t be limited to a quiet place. Pray all day, everywhere, in the middle of traffic, it doesn’t matter.) Or DON’T PRAY ANYTHING. JUST KNEE THERE, or sit there, or lay there. BE QUIET AND LISTEN TO HIM. You may not think you hear anything, but you will sometime in your day. Those sudden wonderful plans/ideas/insights that you think are yours aren’t yours at all, they really CAME FROM HIM.
A psalm of David. 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I have everything I need. 2 He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. 3 He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name. 4 Even when I walk through the dark valley of death,* I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. 5 You prepare a feast for me in the presence of my enemies. You welcome me as a guest, anointing my head with oil. My cup overflows with blessings. 6 Surely your goodness and unfailing love will pursue me all the days of my life, and I will live in the house of the Lord forever.
The belief that does not save is the belief that does not change the
person who believes. Jesus said that if you believe in Him, you would
be changed
