John 14:15, 16 "If you love me, you will obey what i command.  And i will ask the Father, and he will send another Counselor to be with you forever- the Spirit of truth."

John 14:23, 24 "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching.  My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.  He who does not love me will not obey my teaching.  These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me."

Luke 9:23 "The He said to them all: If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily and follow me." 

Christ made it very clear that to be His disciple means being obedient.To accomplish this means we willingly obey Him and dedicate ourselves to Him.  For many people who want to be a follower of Christ, this becomes a deal breaker.  We want all the benefits that come with being saved but we don't want to submit ourselves to anyone- even Jesus Christ.
