This is a touchy subject for most people of faith. It is not the intent of this section to trash any teacher or religion. Since this is a Bible believing website, we use the Bible as the sole source for determing false teachers and false religions. We consider it to be the inspired, inerrant, infallible Word of God. The Bible always sits in judgment of men and never men in judgment of it. By comparing your current teacher or religious system to the Bible, you can come to your own conclusion as to whether that teacher or religion is false.
False religions are religions that teach false doctrine. Doctrine is what the Bible says about any given subject. So any religion that teaches a doctrine that is different than what the Bible teaches is by definition a "false religion".
Christian Ministries International Ron Carlson
How to identify False religion
They add to God's word with new scriptures
They subtract from Jesus
They need multiple works besides Jesus
They divide their followers loyalty, in order to be saved. their church is
the only true church.
Ron Carlson in his book "Fast Facts on False Teachings" says that "aberrant religious groups cloud the clarity of the Word and bring chaos to the soul." He presents nine points that you can use to evaluate your religion. If your religion teaches something different than these basics of the gospel, you should do some further evaluation to make sure that you are not in a false religious system.
1. There is only one true God (Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 43:10, 11; 1 Corinthians 8:4)
2. God is Spirit who fills the heavens and the earth (Jeremiah 23:24; John 4:24).
3. God is not a man (Numbers 23:19; Job 9:32; Hosea 11:9).
4. Jesus is Almighty God manifest in the flesh (John 1:1-3, 14,18; Colossians 1:15-17; 1Timothy 3:16).
5. Jesus preexisted in heaven. Man didn't (John 8:23; 1 Corinthians 1546-49; Genesis 2:7; Zecharaih 12:1).
6. We become children of God by adoption (Romans 8:14-16; Galatians 4:5, 6; Ephesians 1:5).
7. The gospel (good news) by which we are saved is that Jesus provided forgiveness of sins, resurrection, and eternal life through His finished work (1 Corinthians 15:1-4; Hebrews 1:3; John 19:30; Colossians 1:20:22).
8. We are saved by grace through faith unto good works as God's workmanship (Ephesians 2:8-10).
9. God makes us new creatures as the Author and Finisher of our faith (2 Corinthians 5:17-21; Hebrews 12:2).
